Two pathways, one globally recognised credential
Whether you are building your career from the ground up or bringing years of wealth-management experience, AAFM India's CWM® has a registration pathway calibrated for exactly where you are today.
Why two pathways?
The right entry point for every professional stage
Wealth management is a wide profession. Some candidates arrive straight from college; others carry a decade of advisory practice. A single rigid entry requirement would either shut out talented newcomers or under-value experienced practitioners. AAFM India therefore offers two distinct routes to the CWM® — each demanding full mastery of the curriculum, but structured around your starting point.
Both pathways lead to the same internationally portable CWM® designation recognised in 151+ countries. Neither pathway is easier — they differ in prerequisites, examination scope, and the minimum waiting period before your first exam date.
Whichever route you take, you will study all 20 CWM® units across two levels, sit online proctored exams (85 questions / 160 marks / 180 minutes per level, 50% pass mark, no negative marking), and complete the Level II capstone wealth-management plan. The designation you earn is identical.

Decision guide
How to choose your pathway
Answer two questions and your pathway becomes clear.
Question 1 — What is your current qualification?
If you have completed 10+2 but not yet graduated, only the Compulsory Pathway is open to you. You may register and sit exams now; AAFM India will award the CWM® designation once you complete your degree.
If you are already a graduate, both pathways are potentially available — move to Question 2.
Question 2 — How much financial-services experience do you have?
Fewer than 3 years (or experience in an unrelated field): choose the Compulsory Pathway. You will sit both levels and build a comprehensive examination record that satisfies SEBI RIA academic requirements.
3 or more years in financial advisory services: you may apply for the Experience Pathway. AAFM India verifies all experience claims before granting pathway access. See the work-experience requirement page for verification details.
Special case — SEBI Registered Investment Adviser (RIA)
If obtaining or renewing a SEBI RIA licence is part of your goal, you must complete the Compulsory Pathway (both Level I and Level II). The Experience Pathway examination record does not satisfy SEBI's academic qualification condition under the Investment Adviser Regulations 2013.
Speak to an AAFM India counsellor if you are unsure which regulatory requirements apply to your practice.
Route 1
Compulsory Pathway — build your career on a complete foundation
Designed for students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals who want to enter wealth management with a globally portable credential from day one.
The Compulsory Pathway requires no prior work experience. A candidate who has cleared 10+2 may register, attend training, and sit Level I. After passing Level I they proceed to Level II and the capstone wealth-management plan. The CWM® designation is awarded once both levels are passed and the candidate holds a graduate degree.
Because this pathway covers both examination levels, it provides the broadest examination record — including eligibility toward SEBI RIA academic requirements. It also gives early-career professionals a structured two-year study arc that mirrors the depth of a postgraduate finance programme.
Exam scheduling opens 60 days after registration. Full details — steps, study options, renewal, and the 90-day certification-application window — are on the dedicated page.
Route 2
Experience Pathway — accelerate to Level II
For graduate professionals with substantive experience in financial advisory services who want to convert their expertise into a recognised global credential efficiently.
The Experience Pathway recognises that seasoned practitioners already possess applied knowledge equivalent to Level I content. Eligible candidates proceed directly to the Level II examination. Training still covers the full 20-unit curriculum — both levels — so gaps are filled and mastery is certified.
Exam scheduling opens 30 days after registration — the fastest route to the CWM® for those who qualify. AAFM India reviews all work-experience submissions before confirming pathway access. Exact experience thresholds and verification requirements are detailed on the work-experience requirement page.
Note: this pathway does not satisfy SEBI RIA academic qualification requirements. If that is relevant to your practice, speak with a counsellor before registering.

Registration pathway — frequently asked questions
The Compulsory Pathway requires candidates to sit both Level I and Level II examinations and is open from 10+2 onwards — no prior work experience is needed. The Experience Pathway is for graduates with at least 3 years of relevant financial-services experience; those candidates proceed directly to the Level II examination, with training covering both levels.
On the Compulsory Pathway you may schedule your Level I exam from 60 days after registration. On the Experience Pathway you may schedule your Level II exam from 30 days after registration. Allow at least 7 days for application processing and schedule no later than 30 days before your registration expires.
For the Compulsory Pathway, 10+2 completion is sufficient to register and sit the exams. However, you must complete your graduation before AAFM India awards the CWM® designation. For the Experience Pathway, a graduate degree is required at the time of registration.
Registration is valid for 3 years from the date of activation by AAFM India. You must complete both levels and apply for certification within that window. If exams are not completed within the first 365 days, a renewal fee applies for each subsequent year.
You must apply for your CWM® designation within 90 days of clearing the Level II examination. Missing this deadline requires you to re-sit Level II before the certification application can proceed.
No. Only the Compulsory Pathway — which requires completion of both Level I and Level II — satisfies the academic qualification condition under SEBI's Investment Adviser Regulations 2013. If SEBI RIA registration is your goal, choose the Compulsory Pathway regardless of your work experience.
